Toda & Nel-lo hires Remedios García as tax partner in Madrid
The lawyer, with over 25 years of experience at GA_P, joins the Madrid office, which reaches six partners. The tax area is led by Ignacio Goytisolo.

Barcelona-founded firm Toda & Nel-lo has announced the hire of Remedios García as a tax partner in Madrid, according to El Confidencial. García brings more than 25 years of experience built mostly at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, where she developed a practice focused on transactional tax advice, family business restructuring and tax controversy.
A Madrid office reaching six partners
With this addition, the firm's Madrid office grows to six partners. The tax practice is led by Ignacio Goytisolo, and García's profile fits its positioning: technical advice close to the transaction, aimed at mid-market companies and family groups rather than institutional megadeals. The hire continues the firm's methodical expansion in the capital, where it has been adding senior names practice by practice instead of pursuing a headline merger.
Partner moves between firms of this profile have been one of the constants of the Spanish legal market in 2026, as we have been tracking in our major law firms section. Tax, in particular, has concentrated a large share of lateral movement, driven by clients' demand for advisors able to work across the whole life of a transaction, from structuring to the eventual dispute with the tax agency.
What the move signals
For Gómez-Acebo & Pombo the departure is a reminder that large full-service firms remain a talent reservoir for mid-sized competitors offering earlier partnership exposure and closer client ownership. For Toda & Nel-lo, adding a 25-year practitioner signals an ambition to compete for mandates beyond Catalonia, where the firm has historically been strongest.
The pattern mirrors other recent senior tax hires, such as Osborne Clarke's addition of Guillermo Rodrigo from Baker McKenzie for its real estate practice, which we covered in this piece, and the broader commercial strategy questions these moves raise, analysed in our business development section.
Toda & Nel-lo was founded in Barcelona and has built its reputation on close advice to family-owned and mid-market companies, with strong practices in tax, corporate and litigation. Its Madrid office, opened as part of a deliberate national expansion, has grown through selective partner hires rather than volume, a model the firm argues preserves culture and quality control while it scales.
García's arrival also strengthens the firm's capacity in tax inspection and controversy work, an area where demand has grown with the tax agency's increasingly data-driven campaigns. Competing for that work requires exactly the profile the firm has chosen: practitioners with long technical careers and direct knowledge of how large-firm teams handle complex files, now offered in a structure with shorter decision chains and, often, more flexible fees.
In her new role, García will advise on the tax design of acquisitions and restructurings and on the growing volume of disputes derived from the agency's verification campaigns. The firm expects the hire to be followed by additions at senior associate level as the Madrid tax team absorbs more work from the firm's Catalan client base with operations in the capital.
The move leaves Gómez-Acebo & Pombo with a seniority gap in transactional tax in Madrid that the market will watch: replacements of this level usually take months and, in the meantime, files and client relationships are redistributed internally. Toda & Nel-lo, for its part, gains immediate credibility before family groups comparing options among mid-sized firms.
