The legal market of Albacete has a merger with an unusual twist: the resulting brand is not new but revived. Ensis Legal and García Blanca Abogados have announced their merger and will operate under the historic name García Carbonell, the firm founded in Albacete in 1947 from which Ensis Legal emerged in 2022, Cinco Días reports.

Twelve lawyers and seven specialties under one roof

The combined firm starts with a team of 12 lawyers and a multidisciplinary structure aimed at advising businesses. The practice mix covers tax, commercial, insolvency, economic criminal, administrative, labour and social security law, civil liability and insurance, plus new technologies and data protection, a range designed to support companies from day-to-day management to corporate transactions, restructurings and disputes.

Ensis Legal brings its track record advising companies in sectors such as industry, energy and family business. Julio García Cantó, a lawyer since 2009 and partner of the new firm, adds experience in labour advice, contracting and civil liability, with a specialisation in digital law and new technologies. Assessing the deal, García Cantó explains that the project seeks to stand out in the Albacete legal market through the breadth of its specialties, so that companies can solve their varied legal issues with a single team.

The labour muscle of García Blanca

The other leg of the merger is García Blanca Abogados, founded in 2000 and specialised in labour and social security law. Its founder, José Manuel García Blanca, has more than 36 years of experience in the field, first in the union sphere and then in private practice, intervening in collective employment regulation processes in the public and private sectors, collective and individual litigation and criminal and administrative proceedings connected with labour law, alongside university teaching.

García Blanca stresses that the union allows coordinated work on matters spanning several areas of law, with special attention to the connection between labour issues and business decisions.

Consolidation reaches mid-sized markets

For firms in mid-sized cities, the lesson is strategic: the scale needed to advise the local company on tax, labour, insolvency and technology is hard to reach alone, and merging complementary firms is consolidating as the fastest route to the full coverage business clients demand, a phenomenon we follow in our business development section. For the lawyers joining such projects, the message is equally clear: multidisciplinary exposure is becoming the standard expectation in regional business law, and firms that can offer it gain both clients and recruits in markets where a single-specialty practice increasingly struggles to keep complex accounts.

Reviving the founding name is not nostalgic eccentricity but a calculated commercial decision. In the legal markets of mid-sized cities, trust is built over generations, and a brand with nearly eighty years of history conveys solvency to the local business fabric, something no advertising budget can buy.

The deal also shows how regional mergers are negotiated: not simply adding lawyers but combining complementary client portfolios without overlaps that create conflicts of interest. García Blanca's labour specialty fits Ensis Legal's commercial and tax profile without cannibalising it, and that complementarity is what allows the new firm to present a credible full-service offer to the market from its first day of joint operation.
