Osborne Clarke has added two hires in Spain this October: Ana Castedo as Intellectual Property partner (announced on 29 October, according to Leaders League) and Guillermo Rodrigo as Real Estate partner, with a team of three lawyers from Baker McKenzie (announced on 16 October, according to Europa Press).

Castedo: 25 years of IP litigation

Ana Castedo joins with more than 25 years of experience in complex patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition litigation, with a strongly international practice concentrated on the TMT and life sciences and healthcare sectors, two of the firm's strategic areas across Europe.

Her career covers much of the Spanish business-law market of the last two decades. She began at Uría Menéndez, joined Clifford Chance's IP litigation team in Barcelona in 2000, later moved through Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and in 2006 joined Lovells in Madrid, where she built the firm's Spanish IP litigation practice from scratch and was promoted to partner in 2010. Over two decades at Lovells, later Hogan Lovells, she consolidated a leading practice in cross-border patent disputes.

Castedo holds a law degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a diploma in European Union Law from Universidad CEU San Pablo and a master's in Trade Regulation: Intellectual Property and Information Technology from New York University School of Law, and teaches intellectual property regularly.

Rodrigo brings his own team from Baker McKenzie

The second move reinforces Real Estate in Madrid with four lawyers who already worked together: Guillermo Rodrigo joins as partner, Paloma Alcón as counsel and Lucía García Ovies and Jaime Armijo as associates. All four spent a significant part of their careers at Baker McKenzie, which transfers to Osborne Clarke a seasoned team with complementary experience in complex real estate transactions and projects.

Rodrigo has more than 25 years advising major real estate market participants, while Alcón brings 15 years of real estate advisory experience. The new team will coordinate with the Barcelona real estate practice led by Julián Matos. Osborne Clarke Spain's co-managing partners, Miguel Lorán and Jordi Casas, have framed the hires within the firm's strategic growth plan and its bet on the Madrid market.

Other recent moves

Both hires add to other recent moves in the Spanish business-law market, such as Toda & Nel-lo adding Remedios García, KPMG Abogados hired Héctor Ortega for the Canary Islands and Ontier opened a tax practice in Italy.
