To practise law in Spain you must pass the professional aptitude assessment, as well as complete the access master's. The 2026 call was regulated by Order PJC/298/2026 of 24 March, published in the BOE on 31 March.

The exam was held on 2 July 2026 and the Ministry published the marks by a resolution of 6 August. We review how the test works, because the rules serve as a reference for anyone sitting future calls.

An online, simultaneous exam

The order establishes that the exam is taken online, simultaneously for all candidates, starting at 9:00 mainland Spain time. It is done through the UNED virtual exam platform, with a device with an internet connection and a webcam. Candidates can log in from 20 minutes before the start, and the Ministry announces trial days in advance to get familiar with the system.

Registration was done through the Ministry's electronic office with Cl@ve, within 15 working days of the publication of the order. Participation is free.

Structure: two parts and three hours

The test has two parts of multiple-choice questions, with four options and a single correct answer:

PartContentQuestionsTime
A, commonSubjects common to all candidates50 plus 6 reserve2 hours
B, specificSpeciality chosen at registration25 plus 2 reserve1 hour

In part B, the candidate chooses between civil and commercial, criminal, administrative and contentious-administrative, or employment. Those who choose civil and commercial also choose a version on regional (foral) law, which changes the last question.

How it is scored

  • Each correct answer adds 1 point.
  • Each wrong answer subtracts a third of a point.
  • Unanswered questions score nothing.

Part A is scaled from 0 to 50 points, two thirds of the exam, and part B from 0 to 25, the remaining third.

The mark weighted with the master's

The final result does not depend only on the exam. The mark is a weighted average: 70% corresponds to the exam mark and 30% to that of the access master's or course. There is no minimum exam mark for the weighting to apply.

Whoever reaches at least 5 out of 10 in that average obtains a pass. A fail does not prevent sitting later calls.

Results and appeals

The order sets a review calendar worth knowing:

  1. Provisional answer keys: published on the first working day after the exam. There are 5 working days to challenge them.
  2. Final answer keys and marks: published by resolution of the Directorate-General.
  3. Review for clerical errors: under the 6 August resolution, whoever does not pass the test can request it in writing within 3 working days of the publication of the marks, only to correct clerical errors, by email to the address given in the resolution.
  4. Administrative appeal (alzada): possible within one month from the day after publication on the Ministry's website.

The results are individual and can be checked on the Ministry's electronic office, in the aptitude tests section, with the certificate or Cl@ve used at registration.

The assessment board

A resolution of 1 June 2026, published in the BOE, appointed the single assessment board for the test. It is the body in charge of assessing all the candidates of the call.

Lawyers from other EU countries

The route is different for those who already practise in another Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area. A resolution of 28 April 2026 called their aptitude test. The fee is €46.69. The test consists of a practical case of up to four hours in Spanish and a later reading before the board, with questions on the case, the Spanish court system and ethics.

After the pass

With the pass come practical decisions on how to practise:
