October has brought a statistical breather to Spain's commercial courts: 673 companies were declared insolvent during the month, 13.2 percent fewer than the 775 of September, according to the insolvency barometer compiled by RadarConcursal from the Public Insolvency Register's publications. In total, the month added 2,844 published resolutions.

The month's snapshot

The thirteen-month series is as follows: 874 declarations in October 2025, 835 in November, 704 in December, 633 in January, 749 in February, 839 in March, 757 in April, 834 in May, 847 in June, 837 in July, 200 in August, 775 in September and 673 in October 2026. Compared with October 2025 (874), this October's figure is 23 percent lower (own calculation from the barometer's data).

Barcelona and Madrid, a third of the total

The provincial breakdown puts Barcelona first with 148 declarations (22.0 percent of the total), followed by Madrid with 96 (14.3 percent), Alicante with 46 (6.8 percent), Valencia with 39 (5.8 percent) and Bizkaia with 29 (4.3 percent). Zaragoza (25), Málaga (24), Murcia (24), Girona (17) and Seville (16) complete the top ten, with 32 further provinces below that mark.

What has happened to October's insolvent companies

The current status of the 673 companies declared during the month is as follows: 434 remain in the common phase, 76 are in liquidation, 5 have a creditors' agreement and 147 are recorded as concluded. The barometer's methodology warns that days may pass between the court order and its publication, so a month's figures stabilise during the following two weeks.

The data count companies —not resolutions— with a declaration order published within the month, legal persons only, and the province assigned is that of the court handling the proceedings.
