Spain's bar council devotes its next Monday Conference to the expedited judicial-review procedure: 26 October, in person and online
From 16:30 to 18:00, in the Council's assembly hall and via streaming, introduced by Council lawyer Miguel Sastre Borregón.

The General Council of Spanish Lawyers (CGAE) will devote its next Monday Conference to the expedited procedure in the administrative courts. The session takes place tomorrow, Monday 26 October, from 16:30 to 18:00, with in-person attendance in the Council's assembly hall and online streaming after free registration, the Council has announced.
The lecture will be given by lawyer Julián López Martínez, with introduction and moderation by Miguel Sastre Borregón, a lawyer of the General Council. The event is part of the Council's training cycle, with free access for bar members.
Why the expedited procedure deserves an afternoon
The expedited procedure (procedimiento abreviado) is the general route for lower-value claims in the judicial-review courts and, above all, for a catalogue of subject matters that the law reserves to this track regardless of the amount. Its regime, set out in Law 29/1998 governing the administrative jurisdiction, compresses the deadlines for the claim, service, transfer and submissions compared with the ordinary procedure, and organises the hearing and judgment more nimbly.
In practice, that pace changes strategy: deadlines for interim measures and for filing the claim arrive sooner, the closing phase comes faster and the margin to fix procedural defects is much smaller. A calendar mistake in an expedited case rarely has a remedy, and an update session on its real-world practice is among those that pay the most immediate dividends to anyone litigating against the administration.
What to review before your next appeal
Practitioners can use the conference as a refresher on the three points that cause the most trouble in practice: computing the filing deadline from electronic notification, choosing between the expedited and ordinary tracks when a case hesitates between a listed subject matter and a value threshold, and evidence strategy in a procedure where the hearing is short and documents rule. These are questions where the minor case law of the regional high courts creates regional differences worth keeping fresh.
Who teaches and what the format looks like
Julián López Martínez, a practising lawyer with a long track record in the administrative courts, will centre the lecture on the practice of the procedure rather than the theory of the statute. Moderation is handled by Miguel Sastre Borregón, a Council lawyer who usually runs these sessions with a final round of questions. The ninety-minute format allows covering the procedural regime and answering concrete doubts from attendees, both in the room and online.
An open training offer that keeps growing
The Monday Conferences are one of the Council's stable lines of free training: afternoon monographic lectures, in person in Madrid and streamed for the whole of Spain. They add to an autumn particularly full of open training for the profession: the Digital Justice Course of the Abogacía Española, free and with sessions until 1 December, has just started, and the regional bars keep their own programmes active, such as the autumn 2026 courses on digital justice, consumer and banking law we recently compiled.
For those seeking structured options, the ICACádiz and the Sepin legal classroom with free access show that quality training at no cost is no longer the exception in the sector. And in the longer term, the great bar gathering will be the 14th National Congress of the Spanish Legal Profession in Toledo.
