On 6, 7 and 8 November 2026, the II International Conscious Lawyering Congress will take place at the Auditorio Insular in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura (Canary Islands). The meeting will address how to practise law from a more humane and systemic perspective, and will feature more than twelve international speakers, according to the information published in the Barcelona Bar Association's (ICAB) agenda.

Programme and format

The congress will run over three days according to its programme, in both in-person and online formats, which makes attendance easier for those unable to travel to the Canaries. The approach is that of so-called conscious lawyering: a current that proposes incorporating a humane and systemic perspective into professional practice, paying attention to the practitioner's wellbeing, to the emotional management of conflicts and to the relational dimension of legal advice.

ICAB members have a 20% discount on both the in-person and online modalities, applicable with the code UNICIDAD2026. Registration is handled through the congress channels indicated in the bar's agenda.

Why this topic is on the agenda

That a conscious lawyering congress celebrates its second edition with speakers from several countries is not an isolated event. The profession has spent years incorporating the debate on mental health, burnout and the sustainability of practice into its agenda, from wellbeing programmes at large firms to bar-association guides on psychosocial risk prevention. At Agente Lex we have covered that evolution from the regulatory and management angle, with analyses such as the right to digital disconnection at law firms.

The strand these meetings propose adds another layer: not only protecting the professional, but reviewing the very model of the relationship with the client and with conflict, an approach that connects with the rise of appropriate dispute resolution methods (MASC), already a procedural requirement in civil and commercial matters, as we explained in our practical guide to the MASC requirement.

More events this season

Autumn 2026 keeps a dense calendar for the profession. In the coming weeks, highlights also include, on the 2027 horizon, the XIV National Lawyering Congress in Toledo. We publish verified events from the bar and sector agenda every week in our Events section.

What to expect from the second edition

First editions test whether a topic has an audience; second editions reveal whether it has a community. The conscious lawyering movement has spent years moving from the margins to the institutional agenda of the profession: bar associations now run wellbeing programmes, firms measure burnout as a management risk and younger generations of lawyers openly rank sustainability of practice among their criteria for choosing an employer. A congress that brings together more than a dozen international speakers in the Canary Islands confirms that the conversation no longer belongs to a niche.

For practitioners curious about the approach, the value of these meetings is usually concrete: techniques for managing the emotional load of contentious work, models of client relationships that reduce conflict escalation, and peer networks that outlast the event itself. The online format lowers the barrier to a first contact without the cost of travel.

Registration remains open through the official channels, with places also available for the streaming format.
