The VIII National Consumer Law Congress ICAM-AEDC will be held in Madrid on 19-20 November
Consumer litigation accounts for a growing share of law firm work: the ICAM-AEDC congress reviews its most active fronts.

The Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) and the Spanish Consumer Law Association (AEDC) will hold the VIII National Consumer Law Congress ICAM-AEDC on 19 and 20 November 2026, in the bar's main hall (calle Serrano, 9, Madrid). The practice-focused meeting will bring together lawyers, judges and academics to analyse the fronts generating the most litigation in the field.
Those who register before 1 November will benefit from a reduced fee of 150 euros, against the ordinary price of 200 euros.
A programme built on real litigation
The first day will open with a panel on vehicle sales and linked financing: liability for breakdowns, hidden defects and lack of conformity, consumer rights against the seller and the finance company, and actions for contract termination and damages. It will be followed by an analysis of new sources of competition litigation, focusing on active cartels, limitation periods, claim drafting and expert evidence of harm.
Thursday's sessions will close with a review of the Supreme Court's latest consumer law criteria by Amaia Castaño Aguirre, a magistrate at the Supreme Court's Technical Office, who will examine the most recent rulings and their practical impact.
On Friday 20th, the congress resumes with a lecture on applying artificial intelligence to law firm organisation (automation, limits, risks and opportunities), followed by a look at the impact of appropriate dispute resolution mechanisms (ADR) in consumer litigation, both as a procedural admissibility requirement and for its effects on cost awards and litigation strategy. On this point, our practical guide to ADR as an admissibility requirement provides the general framework.
A congress with a track record
The AEDC congress reaches its eighth edition consolidated as the sector's reference event on consumer litigation. Previous editions have dealt with the procedural changes introduced by the reform of civil procedure rules, the rise of mass claims and the growing role of European law in shaping Spanish consumer rules, and the bar's main hall has gathered the leading voices of the specialty from the bench, academia and practice.
Workshops and closing
The programme is completed with practical workshops on cyber-scams and consumer protection (keys to effective claims in phishing and smishing cases), consumer credit (the new European directive and its transposition) and e-commerce and digital platforms, focusing on enforcement under the Digital Services Regulation.
The congress will close with the AEDC Annual Award to CEACCU's Judicial Action Group, in recognition of its track record defending consumers.
Why it is worth watching
Registration is handled through the ICAM website, where the full programme with speakers and session times is available. The AEDC is one of the most active specialist associations in the sector, and its national congress, now in its eighth edition, has become the reference meeting point for lawyers litigating in consumer law, on both the consumer and the business side.
Consumer law has become one of the most stable sources of work for civil practitioners, and recent procedural reforms have changed how these claims are brought. For lawyers already in the field, the congress packs an update into two days; for those considering specialising, it is a good snapshot of where the work is. Also on our agenda: the II International Conscious Lawyering Congress in Fuerteventura, the II ICAM Family and Succession Law Congress and the IV Aranzadi In-House Lawyering Congress.
