The Barcelona Bar puts AI on the table this Monday: a forum to decide how firms will bill in the age of the algorithm
The ICAB Digital Transformation Commission holds its Forum on AI in Legal Practice this Monday 2 November at 10 am, with two discussion panels.

The Digital Transformation Commission of the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) will hold this Monday 2 November at 10 am its Forum on AI in Legal Practice, a meeting to address the changes the irruption of artificial intelligence is causing in the practice of the profession and to weigh both the new opportunities and the risks for the labour market and for law firm billing, Lawyerpress reports.
Two panels at the heart of the professional debate
The forum is structured around two discussion panels that go to the centre of the professional debate. The first will cover the impact of AI on the legal labour market, and the second will address the impact on firm billing, the question that most unsettles the profession when a tool resolves in minutes the work that used to justify billable hours. The panels will be moderated, respectively, by Octavio Gracia and Quim Clavaguera, members of the bar's governing board and heads of its Digital Transformation Commission.
The session will be presented by Alexander Salvador, governing-board member responsible for the Digital Transformation Commission, and by Júlia Bacaria, president of the ICAB's Digital Law and Artificial Intelligence Section. The closing remarks will fall to lawyer and board member Octavio Gracia.
Understanding in order to anticipate
Salvador has explained the purpose of the meeting with a formulation that sums up the profession's moment: the forum is born from the will to be a space for reflection on how this technology is redefining legal practice, because understanding those changes is essential to anticipate their consequences, raise the questions the profession has not yet asked itself and make decisions that will shape the coming years.
A dense November for the profession
The ICAB forum joins an especially busy November for the Barcelona and Madrid bars. The Barcelona college itself hosts the sessions on ADR and housing on 6, 13 and 20 November and the practical AI workshop by CiberDRET in hybrid format, while the Madrid bar holds its Tenth National Insolvency Law Congress on the 12th and 13th. The profession's digital transformation, in any case, has its most direct forum in Monday's event, in the line of work we follow in our legal AI section.
