VI AMAFI Congress: filiation, DNA and inheritance under debate on 19 and 20 November in Madrid
The General Council of Notaries hosts the family-law congress on filiation, genetic testing and succession rights.

How far does biological truth reach in determining filiation? What happens when a DNA test challenges a legally recognised paternity? What consequences does the late recognition of a filiation have on an inheritance? These questions are at the centre of the VI Congress of the Madrid Association of Family, Childhood and Succession Lawyers, AMAFI, to be held on 19 and 20 November 2026 at the headquarters of the General Council of Notaries, at calle Silvano 55 in Madrid, according to Lawyerpress.
From DNA to inheritance
Under the title "Filiation: from DNA to inheritance. The current legal revolution", the congress proposes a multidisciplinary and practical reflection on one of the areas undergoing the greatest transformation in family law. It will bring together professionals from the legal profession, the judiciary, the prosecution service, the notariat and specialists from different disciplines.
The programme covers the analysis of biological and genetic evidence in filiation proceedings, the value of DNA testing and the consequences of refusing to undergo one, the actions to claim and challenge filiation, assisted reproduction, surrogacy and international filiation, with their civil, international and criminal implications.
The succession connection
One of this edition's singularities is its attention to the connection between family law and succession law: filiation claims with succession effects, the appearance of new heirs, the possible revision of inheritance situations and the value of genetic evidence in those proceedings, questions of clear interest for lawyers and notaries specialised in inheritances.
The congress also incorporates an interdisciplinary perspective with psychological and social dimensions, and closes with a practical session devoted to advice and defence strategies in complex filiation litigation. It is aimed at family and succession lawyers, judges, prosecutors, court clerks, notaries and psychosocial professionals.
Practical details
The congress is held in person with a streaming option. Registration is open with limited in-person places.
An interdisciplinary perspective
AMAFI has built into the programme a perspective that goes beyond the strictly legal: behind every filiation proceeding there are personal stories, emotional bonds and identity conflicts with profound emotional consequences, especially for children and adolescents. The participation of psychology and psychosocial professionals seeks a fuller understanding of the problems and of the responses required for the effective protection of those affected.
The format combines specialised presentations, legal analysis and interdisciplinary debate, and culminates in a practical closing session devoted to advice and defence strategies in complex filiation litigation. The days also encourage the exchange of experiences and the building of professional relationships between specialists from different disciplines, with the possibility of following by streaming for professionals across Spain.
